Better Systems –> Better Results

We all want our governments to work better. Be more efficient and waste less. Serve the people equally instead of special interests. Solve problems instead of squabbling without resolution. Do what we need them for well, and don’t do the things they shouldn’t.

But how do we get from here to there? How can our elected and other officials deliver bigger, better, faster, and more results across the full range of issues?

That’s what I work on.

I’ve served on Capitol Hill for several members of Congress. I’ve worked in think tanks, advocacy organizations, and lobbying offices. I’ve spent years at America’s premier grassroots organization advising on federal, state, and local budget and governance options.

Institutions shape energy into concrete outcomes. Good institutions provide good incentives, promote constructive behavior, and produce good results. Better institutions can serve us even better.

Understanding policymaking institutions is a life-long challenge. I learn all the time and expect that will continue.

But I’ve pursued public policy long enough to have clear ideas about how we can do better.

These pages share what I’ve learned and what I’m thinking about. Mostly, it’s upgrades to make us more free, prosperous, fulfilled, and hopeful.
